Dr. Thomas Egan, the Aussie

Why should you come and see me?

Because I care about you! I don’t just care about the pain or symptom you are experiencing, I don’t just care about how your body is doing now, I care about you the person and the life you are living and where your body is going to be taking you.

Because I have experience, not 10+ years of ‘run of the mill chiropractic’ that started after becoming a licensed chiropractor (December 2004), but almost 20 years of focused Gonstead experience aiming to help people get as good as possible as quick as possible.

Because what we do here gets results, it makes so much sense and medical doctors from all over the region have referred people to this clinic for these reasons.

And… because you deserve to know the truth when it comes to your health – how you can overcome any pain or health problem naturally and what it means to be truly healthy.

Why I’m a chiropractor?

Coming out of high school, my number 1 study preference was medicine (I’ve always wanted to help people) with chiropractic down on the list as I had only been introduced to it by a friend’s father and didn’t really know much about it. I “somehow” received an offer to study chiropractic at RMIT University without going through the interview process (I was later told by the head of selections that there must have been some kind of “mistake”).

Initially I was disappointed I didn’t get an offer from Monash to study medicine, having been told by faculty members that they were sure I’d get one. It wasn’t to be so I began to look into what this chiropractic stuff was all about and boy did my thoughts and feelings change! I now see God’s providence in my life – opening the door to a far greater calling.

Why I call myself a Gonstead Chiropractor?

I soon found out, in the world of chiropractic, that chiropractic isn’t just chiropractic. There seemed to be a multitude of methods, techniques and approaches to the practice of chiropractic and I thought that, if I wanted to be really good, I’d need to know all of the different ways, so I started on a quest to learn them all. As my understanding grew, I discovered the principles of chiropractic and that not all approaches to chiropractic line up with them.

Chiropractic works within the laws of nature, it isn’t a ‘try as you might’ profession, it is an approach to health care based on principles that don’t change (like when you let go of an apple it’ll fall to the ground). The principles have been around since our creation, and won’t change (at least not unless the laws of nature do).

"Chiropractic works 100% of the time, when it doesn’t seem to be working, don’t question Chiropractic, question the application of Chiropractic. Methods are many, Principles are few.  Methods always change, Principles never do."
– Warren Wiersbe

So I stacked up all these different approaches/techniques of chiropractic against the principles of chiropractic to determine which ones stood up… and to this day, I have found the Gonstead System stands tallest and adheres closest to the principles of chiropractic.

I began searching out Gonstead Chiropractors and observing them work. They saw a lot of people with back pain, and often very severe cases facing surgery too, but that wasn’t what attracted me the most.

These Gonstead Chiropractors were helping patients suffering with other health problems too; digestion, reproductive issues, breathing, hormonal imbalance, and so much more, and the patients were later returning without these same problems that had plagued them for years. It was exciting to witness!

The Gonstead Chiropractors were seeing the spectrum, newborn babies through to the osteoporotic elderly, the athlete to the business professional. They were applying the principles of chiropractic and people were getting better!

So that was it, I knew I had found my ‘calling’ and applied my time, focus and energy to understanding the philosophy, learning the science and mastering the art of Chiropractic.

From half way through 1st year university (2000) I was seeing friends, family… anyone I could get my hands on to practice this fine art of chiropractic so that I could be the best chiropractor to help you!

The people I’ve encountered and the results they’ve achieved have really made this chiropractic journey amazing, and I would love the opportunity to help you along the way too!

Why would an Aussie choose to live in Welland?

A question I’m asked a lot. The short answer is Divine Guidance – The Lord! I say this because I wouldn’t have written the story of my life in such a way having come from Melbourne (the most livable city in the world) and Mentone (the most livable part of Melbourne). I had practiced there for 10+ years. I had married a sweet girl from Pelham in 2004 and we had plans to work and live here for an indefinite period so between 2005 and 2012, I completed 4 exams in Canada to be registered as a chiropractor, and in that time a heart for Welland and the Niagara Region had grown within me. In 2012 though, a seemingly devastating event (my wife at the time leaving me) almost put a stop to these plans however, it was in and through this that I came to know The Lord Jesus personally and experience His saving grace. I believe He was leading me here for a reason and He has blessed my time here, my practice and my life; Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose – or if I re-state it: for those that love God and are called according to his purpose - The bad will work out for good, the good can never be taken away, and the best is yet to come. I married Sarah Verkaik (a princess from Burlington and my Allup) on February 20th 2015 and we have experienced the Lord’s blessings as we endeavor to live in obedience to The Almighty God's calling!

We look forward to a life of service following Christ our King in this our community here with our 2 boys Malachi (born 09/06/2016), Zephaniah (born 07/01/2018), Torah (born 03/01/2020) and Salome (born 03/04/2021).

And quite frankly, I love it here, and all that this region has to offer. I enjoy all four seasons since migrating here in 2013 and calling Welland home.

Member of the Chiropractic College of Ontario since 2013.
